We were in Portugal for our last P read, when we examined Blindness by Jose Saramago. This time, to represent a P location, we have selected Palestine.
Writing Mornings in Jenin began in 2002, and an earlier iteration was published in 2006 before it was finally published in 2010 in its current form. The edition we are offering marks the fifteenth anniversary and was published in paperback in November 2024.
The novel is described as heart-wrenching and powerfully written. It is a family saga that spans three generations and takes us through love and loss, war and oppression, heartbreak and hope.
“…achingly beautiful, a modern Palestinian classic.” – Saleem Haddad
“Never before have I read such a fascinating novel about Palestine and Israel. It affected me emotionally in a way only great novels can.” – Henning Mankell
“When we grow numb to horror, when our minds slam shut in shock and denial, sometimes a story can slip to reawaken our humanity. This is that story, never more relevant, and my heart is stronger for reading it.” – Laline Paull
